In the immense solitude of Alaska's expansive wilderness, the penetrating darkness of the land at night is only counterbalanced by the brilliance of the starlight and aurora hues coloring the world's canopy. Yet an accidental and otherwise mundane occurrence momentarily shifted the eternal balance of light and darkness. For a fleeting instant, an off-road vehicle traversing dune-like terrains shone its lights directly across my camera's field of vision and illuminated the entire treeline horizon. Land and sky alike glittered with radiance for the span of a single breath and then returned to their customary roles in the night's dichotomy of colors.
